Some entries can reduce your overall credit score more than 100 points. Others hardly hurt your score at all. Knowing the difference between a truly bad entry and a simple negative, is a powerful tool when beginning the credit repair process.
Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow… Well, not really. A foreclosure or a bankruptcy may drop off your credit report given time, but anything short of that should be addressed now. Your most recent payment history and accounts that have gone to collections are factored with a greater weight by the credit agencies. Therefore, the item should be addressed first. Waiting for the situation to somehow change is not the answer.
You cannot turn a blind eye to your credit deficiencies. Many consumers will not take the steps necessary to deal with their credit problems until it has bitten them where it hurts. Before you know it, your credit has taken a nosedive. You want that new car? Or maybe you’re applying for a loan? Maybe you finally found a starter home you can afford? That is not the time to realize that your credit has gone south.
